“We didn’t believe him at first,” Tyvon Smith, 26, told The Post of his 15-year-old brother, Tyler, who was one of three teenagers targeted in the bloody, possibly gang-related drive-by.

“Tyler came in shocked,” Smith said of the moment his sibling, a high school sophomore, approached him after the shooting.

“He was crying saying that his friends and brothers had been shot dead. He said they also fired at him. They were driving and took a few shots at them and Tyler got lucky.

“I told him he was joking, playing, he was playing a lot of video games,” Smith said.

Smith said his brother and two of his friends were “going to the store” when the gunfire erupted.

“Maybe he had a problem with somebody and they saw him and they took a shot,” she said of her brother. “I’m just glad he wasn’t hit.”

“I heard gunshots, seven to nine of them, and I went into my daughter’s room,” Tonya Vasquez, who lives across the street, told The Post.

“I heard screaming, a young man’s voice, ‘Call 911! Call 911!’ “Just crying and screaming, ‘Oh, my God! My God!,'” she said.

Vasquez, 37, said: “He ran to the corner and the heavy-set kid came out at the stop sign. “My daughter yelled at me, ‘Don’t go out there! Don’t go there!’

“One is skinny and tall and the other is a heavy set. The skinny kid was wearing black jeans and a red cloth on his head. The heavyset child was wearing a white t-shirt. He was shouting on the phone.

Zeldin, a 46-year-old congressman who campaigned for governor on a tough-on-crime platform, said his 16-year-old twin daughters, who were home alone at the time of the shooting, are still “beautiful.” Moved.”

“My daughters slept with my wife and I, the four of us in the bedroom last night,” he said outside the Shirley home. “It was something they had to experience.”

Suffolk County police said three teenagers were walking on St. George Drive West around 2:19 p.m. Sunday when a “dark-colored vehicle” drove by and “one of the occupants fired several shots through the window of the vehicle.”

Two of the teenagers, 17-year-old Joel Murphy and Elijah Robinson, were injured after fleeing into Zeldin’s yard — one tripping over Zeldin’s campaign sign.

Police sources said The shooting may be gang-related But they have released some details that triggered it.

“This is an unfortunate incident,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said at the scene Monday morning. “The two people who were shot are 17 years old. One round hit Congressman Seldin’s residence. Her daughters were here and rocked right through.

“I see a lot of guns walking the streets,” Harrison said. “We need to take the guns out of these people’s hands.”

Zeldin, a Republican, has represented District 1 in the House of Representatives since 2015, and ran for Governor Kathy Hochul in November.

Zeldin has run his campaign heavily on a tough-on-crime platform and has been vocal against the state’s 2019 bail reform measures.

On Monday, Hochul said he was glad Seldin’s family was unharmed.

“I am very happy that the family is safe,” the governor said. “It’s a reminder that we must work together to get guns off the streets.”
