Hall Road Rangers began their NCEL Division One campaign with a defeat on Saturday as they lost 3-2 against Swallownest at Haworth Park.
Rangers boss Leon Sewell was pleased with his side’s performance despite the final result.
“It was a pleasing performance with plenty of positives to work on. We more than competed with our visitors and kept going till the end”
Swallownest took the lead in the 15th minute courtesy of Jake Squires. Rangers recovered well from this setback and equalised in the 22nd minute as Tom Bennett got his first goal of the season.
The visitors regained their advantage in the 43rd minute when Oliver Grady got himself onto the scoresheet. Swallownest added to their lead in the 54th minute through a Matthew Morton strike.
Ryan Williams scored his first goal of the campaign in the 88th minute when he got Hall Road back in the game with a well taken free kick.
Rangers pushed for an equaliser as the game drew to a close but they weren’t able to find it.
Sewell summed up by highlighting aspects of play that he wants his players to improve.
We need to get the little mistakes out of our game quickly and stop putting ourselves under unnecessary pressure. Once we do that, we will be alright.
We’ll be back on the training ground on Tuesday night preparing for our FA Cup tie next Saturday
