Start of the Season

Hall Road Rangers begin their 2nd consecutive season in the NCEL Premier Division this Saturday when they welcome Hemsworth Miners Welfare to Haworth Park.

Rangers boss Bill Gill is excited about the new season and also jokingly admits he would have liked an extra week of preparation.

Saturday seems to have come around very quickly, like most managers I would ideally like another week or two. Don’t think the league will give any more extensions after last season.

The Wells finished 6th last season so they will provide the ideal first challenge for this young Rangers side as they aim to make the perfect start to the new season.

Tough Opposition

Gill expects his side’s opponents to be well prepared and knows his players will undoubtedly have to be at their best.

I always take every game as it comes and the preparation for this game has been very similar to most games.

We expect a very hardworking side that have made some good additions to their squad and as they have openly announced they will be chasing a top 8 place this season. This sets up a tough opening game to the season for us.

Both match ups between these sides in the last league campaign provided a lot of entertainment. Last August saw a 3-3 draw at Hemsworth MW whilst Hall Road ran out 4-0 winners at Haworth Park in April. This was the victory which effectively secured their NCEL Premier Division status.

Gill summed up by reflecting on injuries picked up in pre-season by some players but was also positive about how others have stepped up in those circumstances.

We have had three serious injuries during pre-season which have resulted in players being sidelined for a couple of months.

This has put preparation back a little but the lads that have stepped up have done well and they have to take their chance on Saturday to put themselves in contention this season.
