Match Report

Hall Road Rangers took a massive step towards securing safety in the NCEL Premier Division on Thursday night as they comprehensively defeated Handsworth Parramore 4-0 at Haworth Park. Rangers were dominant in the second half and made their chances count as they produced what was a scintillating performance.

Hall Road boss Bill Gill was delighted with the result and pointed out that this result wasn’t unexpected from his point of view.

This result wasn’t unexpected for me as we won 4-1 at Handsworth in the away fixture and we won 4-0 in this game. I would never come out and say that before a game as it is disrespectful and arrogant but you only have to look at the results over the season and the quality in our squad to see that we can beat anyone on our day.

First Half

Rangers rode their luck quite a lot throughout the first half as Handsworth caused them all sorts of problems from long throw ins and corners. The visitors saw two headers go just wide of the goal and also had a shot that went over the bar as they pushed for the opening goal. Hall Road’s best chance fell to Reggi Waud whose shot went wide but he would later bag a brace in the second half.

Gill credited Handsworth for the threat they posed from set pieces that caused real danger for his side.

Handsworth were without two key players in this game and for the first half hour they threw everything at us as they were direct and excellent on set pieces.

Hall Road took the lead in the 25th minute when skipper Danny Norton headed home to get his second goal in as many games. Handsworth then began to come back into the game and forced James Hitchcock into producing a save to keep Hall Road’s lead in tact. Rangers did manage to see the rest of the half out and went in at half time with their one goal lead.

Second Half

Rangers started the second half very well and looked to try and get a second goal to give themselves a more comfortable lead. They found the goal to double their lead in the 51st minute after Dane Mortimer sent a bullet header into the Handsworth net from a well delivered free kick by Jack Griffin. The visitors tried to respond and get themselves back into the game and the only real opportunity they had was a shot that went wide

The score line became more and more spectacular late in the second half as Reggi Waud scored twice in a matter of minutes. His first goal came in the 83rd minute when he headed home from a corner. Waud got his brace in the 85th minute with a fantastic strike from distance which was his 4th goal in less than a week. This perfectly capped what was a terrific performance from Rangers and leaves them on the brink of clinching safety.

For The Fans

Gill also praised his back four for the way they coped with the pressure they were put under throughout the game.

Our back four and goalkeeper were outstanding. Gareth Owen, Dane Mortimer, Jacob Norburn and Jordan Clark were different gravy as they gave us a great foundation to work on. I said to the lads if we got a second goal would get four and that’s what happened.

Attention now turns to the visit of Thackley to Haworth Park on Saturday and at least a point from this game will guarantee another season in the NCEL Premier Division for Hall Road.

Gill summed up by dedicating the win to his players, the whole of the club and the fans.

The lads, the club and the fans deserved that result and I’m happy for them right now. We just need any result now on Saturday to confirm stability in this league next season so that’s our next focus.
