National Condom Day
This Valentines Day shares a date with another important day; National Condom Day.
National Condom day is the perfect opportunity to learn more about healthy sexual relationships. It is also the ideal time to remember the importance of consent.
Condoms are the only type of contraception that can both prevent pregnancy and protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
As part of the celebrations of National Condom Day, Yorkshire MESMAC will be in Prospect Centre. From 10am-3pm on the 14th of February they will be giving out 1,200 free goodie bags. These bags will contain condoms and sweets.
You can also ask their staff and volunteers about how to use condoms. You can also book a HIV/STI test.
If you are not going to be around there that day you can always visit their office. They are located at 15 Freetown Way, HU2 8JQ. At their office you can pick up free condoms and lube, or speak to their staff and volunteers about any concerns you have.
This year’s National Condom Day theme is “Got CAKE?”. CAKE being an acronym to remember when it comes to consent:
- C – Consent
- A – Ask first. Both partners of legal age actively agree to take part in sexual activities without fear, coercion or intimidation.
- K – Keep safe – Both partners have the right to use condoms and other contraception to protect themselves from sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies.
- E – Every time – Both partners have the freedom to choose when and what sexual activities to take part in, and the freedom to change their mind at any time.
