Match Preview

Things get even tougher for Hall Road Rangers this weekend. On Saturday 2nd placed Handsworth Parramore are visiting Haworth Park. Handsworth have won their last 2 games on the bounce and have kept successive clean sheets in those victories. They will provide a very stern test for Hall Road as The Ambers aim to catch up with AFC Mansfield. Mansfield currently top the NCEL Premier Division table.

Hall Road boss Bill Gill has signalled that he intends to make changes ahead of this weekend’s game. With his side looking for that illusive victory. Gill said:

We will be making changes without doubt from last week in order to try and get some momentum back. The lads have been working hard and getting back to basics and we welcome a couple of players back from suspension

Handsworth Parramore

Managed by James Colliver, The Ambers are in very good shape. They will be looking to carry on the fine form they have shown in recent games. Their away form so far this season has been spectacular. Handsworth have won 10 of their 14 games away from home. Furthermore, Handsworth are a side who do score a lot of goals. This has been exemplified by the collective efficiency of Jonathan Froggatt and Aaron Moxam in front of goal who have scored a combined number of 29 league goals between them, Froggatt has 17 and Moxam has 12.

In stark contrast to Hall Road who lost 6-1 at Bridlington Town last Saturday, Handsworth won 3-0 at home to Parkgate. Jonathan Froggatt bagged a brace whilst Aaron Moxam got the other goal for The Ambers which emphasises the effective strike partnership that they have. Both of them will have to be marshalled well by the Hall Road defence in order to give them any chance of causing an upset on Saturday.

A Win Needed

On the other hand, Hall Road now sit in 16th place after last weekend’s results and need to find a win very quickly before they become stranded in the bottom half of the NCEL Premier Division table. If they were to beat Handsworth and cause an upset then it would be the perfect catalyst for the next few games as Rangers need to pick up some momentum if they are to rise up the table and eventually challenge to get into the top 10. A top half finish is still possible but the results needed to get Hall Road there need to be picked up sooner rather than later.

The reverse fixture between these sides came right back in September as Rangers romped to a 4-1 victory at Handsworth. Danny Chambers scored a hat trick that day for Hall Road. Unfortunately he won’t be involved in this weekend’s game as he is still out with a long term injury. Chris Spinks grabbed the other Rangers goal whilst Aaron Moxam scored a consolation goal for The Ambers. Handsworth will be looking to avenge that rather frustrating defeat and further enhance their pursuit of 1st placed AFC Mansfield at the same time, The Ambers have 2 games in hand on the table topping side so a 3rd successive win on Saturday would be very welcome for them indeed.

“Keen to put in a positive performance”

Bill Gill noted the desire of his players to turn their recent poor form around. The team are determined to put in a good performance against Handsworth on Saturday.

When asked about match preparation, Gill said:

We have trained hard this week and as a group discussed our recent games, the attitudes of the players and the results. The lads are very keen to put in a positive performance which will start with hard work, good shape, and desire.
