Five taxi services in the region have been given a 5-star rating. East Riding of Yorkshire Council have recently launched a scheme, the first of its kind in the country.
The scheme involves all taxi operators receiving a 3-5 star rating. Taxis will be required to display this star rating in their vehicles. It is hoped that this star rating scheme will help improve the quality of service offered by local taxi firms.
The five taxi operators that received the 5-star ratings are:
- Home Sweet Home (Hornsea)
- Willbery Cars
- All Journey Solutions (Beverley)
- Wilberfoss Travel
- All White Cars (Hook)
Every operator in the East Yorkshire area will be required to display their rating. The rating is given through an assessment of the operator’s service.
Operators will be assessed on a number of criteria including having CCTV installed, mandatory safeguarding training, and distinctive green and white livery on all licensed vehicles.
So far 76 of the 80 licensed private hire operators have received the basic 3-star rating. They received this rating by attending a course on Private Hire law and Safeguarding.
Twelve operators are currently working towards the coveted 5-star rating, and assessments will be taking place early in 2018.
Councillor Shaun Horton, the portfolio holder for community involvement at East Riding of Yorkshire Council said:
I would like to offer my congratulations to those operators who have committed to the scheme and completed their five-star accreditation.
I am really proud that East Riding of Yorkshire Council is the first in the country to implement such a scheme which raises standards and provide a real commitment providing a safe and reliable private hire service for the public.
I hope there are many more five-star ratings to come.

I wanted to gain the five stars so people in the area know we are a well-run, reputable company that can be trusted.
Issues over the past few years have left some of the taxi industry with a bad reputation so a scheme like this is great as it helps give customers reassurance that we are a well-run and trustworthy business.
