East Yorkshire – Grant Available To Improve Home Security

Home Security

Christmas Time is the time of the year where the number of crimes involving homes being broken into unfortunately rises. Thankfully East Riding of Yorkshire Council have just announced a grant available to help protect your home.

The Safe and Sound scheme is designed to help the most vulnerable East Yorkshire residents feel safer this Christmas. With grants from the scheme residents can have security devices such as window alarms and additional door and window locks fitted.

Due to eligibility criteria of the scheme this is limited to people aged over 60, or have a disability. They must not have household savings of over £5,000. They must also be a home-owner, private tenant, or housing association tenant.

Residents in Council housing are not eligible for this particular grant. If you have any concerns regarding your home’s safety you should contact the council. The best way to contact them is through the Housing Services number, 01482 396301. Alternative funding may be available.

During the application process those that are accepted will receive a free home security assessment to see what help the grant can offer.

Councillor Shaun Horton, who is the portfolio holder for community involvement at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

Now we are moving into winter and the longer nights are here, a lot of people do think about increasing their home security.

I would urge those people who are eligible for the scheme to apply for a grant as it will help them feel safer in their home.

How To Apply?

If you’d like to apply for this grant, or would like further information, contact the Safe Communities team, on 01482 396380, or drop them an email at [email protected].
