The Labour party has announced the replacement for Hull West & Hessle MP Alan Johnson, who steps down after 20 years.

Emma Hardy, who has served on Hessle Town Council and previously worked at Willerby Carr Lane Primary School as a teacher, will now be Labour’s MP Candidate for the area in the upcoming elections.

Though not original from the city of Hull she has spent the majority of her life in the region and has beaten off strong competition for the position for Labour Candidate.

Opposition she faced on her rise to Candidate includes Sam Tarry, who appeared to be favourite to take the position. Sam has close links to the Labour Party Leader, Jeremy Corbyn, and since the announcement of MP Alan Johnson’s stepping down was considered the favourite to take the coveted spot.
