After a string of excellent performances, Harry Maguire must surely be wondering when his first England call-up will come.

Maguire, who has been regarded as 3rd choice by previous managers, finally got the chance to stake his place in the first team lineup after injuries to Michael Dawson and Curtis Davies. Although his start at Hull was pretty average, Maguire has stepped up his game drastically and is now widely considered our best central defender by fans.

With the return of Dawson in the coming few weeks, along with Davies, it gives Marco Silva quite the selection headache.

Statistically speaking, Maguire has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League this season and has surely caught the eye of Gareth Southgate, who attended a previous game to monitor the progress of some of his more recent call-ups.

Not one to stick too far back, Maguire also possesses two things that makes defenders struggle against his runs. Firstly his ability on the ball is quite clear, he’s not shy of holding onto the ball and moving around with it. Secondly, the man is a giant. When he runs with the ball towards players you can actually see them thinking twice about putting in a tackle.

With his contract running low, Silva has commented that securing Maguire’s long-term future to the club is one of his priorities. What is for sure though is that his call-up to the England squad can’t come soon enough!
