Eldin Jakupovic has earned a nomination for the EA Sports Premier League Player Of The Month.

Starting this season as Hull City’s #1 after an injury to, now Cardiff loanee, Allan McGregor in the latter stages of last season, Jakupovic helped Hull City to start the season off with a massive upset by defeating reigning champions Leicester City, who Hull face on Saturday, 2-1.

For reasons that only Mike Phelan, whose stint as manager ended in January, will know he was dropped in favour of new signing David Marshall. After a series of heavy defeats, Phelan’s faith in Marshall never wavered, even after excellent performances in the cup runs by Jakupovic. Though an excellent keeper in his own right, Marshall never gained the faith of the Tigers faithful supporters the way they back Jakupovic, with many calling for him to be dropped.

Jakupovic’s second chance came with Phelan’s departure. Since then he has been indispensable. Performances such as his clean sheets against a strong Manchester United side and the win against Liverpool have made it clear that he’s Hull’s #1 and will do anything to keep it that way.

Always the fan favourite, Jakupovic can often be seen rallying the fans, encouraging them to shout their team on, and embodies the underdog spirit that has been with Hull since the dark times lingering at the bottom of the old Division Three.

After spending many seasons as 2nd or even 3rd choice, Jakupovic was given his chance to show his abilities, and certainly did so. His performances could be critical to Hull’s Premier League survival hopes.

He faces tough competition for the Player of the Month award, but your votes will help him get what I’m sure any Hull fan will think he deserves. He faces Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Romelu Lukaku (Everton), Gareth McAuley (West Bromwich Albion) and David Silva (Manchester City).
